#MMBBR #Showcase #FirstLine Liar's Key (Sharpe & Donovan) by @CarlaNeggers @HarlequinBooks

About Liar’s Key

Emma Sharpe is suspicious when retired Special Agent Gordon Wheelock, a legend in FBI art crimes, drops by her Boston office for a visit. Gordy says he’s heard rumors about stolen ancient mosaics. Emma, an art crimes specialist herself, won’t discuss the rumors. Especially since they involve Oliver York, an unrepentant English art thief. Gordy and Emma’s grandfather, a renowned private art detective, chased Oliver for a decade. Gordy knows Wendell Sharpe didn’t give him everything he had on the thief. Even now, Oliver will never be prosecuted.

When a shocking death occurs, Emma is drawn into the investigation. The evidence points to a deadly conspiracy between Wendell and Oliver, and Emma’s fiancé, deep cover agent Colin Donovan, knows he can’t stay out of this one. He also knows there will be questions about Emma’s role and where her loyalties lie.

#FirstLine ~ Gordy Wheelock washed the dried blood off his face and checked the damage in the mirror.

 Praise For Carla Neggers

“Everything is out of control, and nothing is as it seems, making for the intense, edge-of-your-seat whirlwind that best-selling Neggers does so well in her Sharpe & Donovan series. Q.  What inspires your writing?

A. I love a good story! Once one starts percolating, I want to see where it goes. I can’t always trace a story back to what got it percolating, but it’s often visual – an image of a character doing something. For instance, I could always see retired FBI legend Gordy Wheelock lying to Emma Sharpe, his one-time protégé, in her FBI office. That image turned into LIAR’S KEY.

Q.  What is your favorite thing about being a writer?

A. The writing itself. I love to write and have since I first climbed a tree with a pad and pen as a kid and spun stories on my favorite branch.

Q.  What is the toughest part of being a writer?

A. The ever-changing business that is publishing can be a distraction for us as writers if we let it. Key phrase: if we let it.

Q.  If you could not be writer, what would you do/be?

A. Probably an archaeologist of some sort. It’s one of my favorite subjects to research! I have all sorts of books on Irish and Celtic archaeology. Fascinating.

Q.  What would the story of your life be entitled?

A. My daughter’s already got a title for me: “It seemed like a good idea at the time.” Ha!

Q.  What is your favorite book of all time?

A. Depends on my mood. I reread a book by Mary Stewart and Rex Stout every summer. They evoke a different time and are just plain fun to read, but I also have a lot of “favorite” books that I’ve read only once.

Q.  Which character from ANY book are you most like?

A. I honestly couldn’t tell you. One with a happy ending, I hope! As a kid, I identified with the kids in The Sound of Music because there are seven of them and I’m third of seven. A movie, I know. And I didn’t grow up in a mansion. But, still…

Q.  What character from all of your books are you most like?
A. My characters all feel like such individuals to me, if they walked into my office, I’d recognize them. I’m not sure which ones I’m like but I think we’d be friends.

Q.  Which book would you love to take a weekend vacation inside of?

A. One with scenes in Ireland!

Q. What is your favorite season?

A. I love early autumn when the leaves are turning and the apple picking is good, but I might have answered spring if it were February, since I live in northern New England where the winters are long.

Q.  What inspired your book cover(s)?  Or what is your favorite book cover and why?

A. I work with a great art department at MIRA Books. I give them the setting and a few visual elements, and off they go. The concept for LIAR’S KEY was perfect for the book right from the start. I love it. They get all the credit.

Q. Tell me something funny that happened while on a book tour or while promoting your book.

A. Book tours are always an adventure! One time, I was having lunch with my media guy who drove me to events, and the bartender ran over to us and said the cops were there. My guy ran out and didn’t come back for a while. I started to wonder if he’d gotten arrested but he returned. He’d been talking the cops out of having him towed. Great guy. We stay in touch. One tale of many…

Q.  Are you working on something new?

A. I’m putting the finishing touches on RED CLOVER INN, my next Swift River Valley novel, and diving into THIEF’S MARK, my next Sharpe & Donovan novel. Both will be out in 2017.

Q.  Anything you want to say to followers of this blog or those that are just stopping by?

A.  Thank you!! I love to “meet” readers and talk about books and writing.
